Cross the french Alps from the Leman Lake to the Mediterranean Sea. At the start of the Route des Grandes Alpes in Thonon-les-Bains, get ready for 1165 kilometers of roads and breath-taking landscapes. From the first kilometres stands the Massif du Mont-Blanc in front of you. Follow the summit of Vanoise, Ecrins and Mercantour National Park. We will pass by the Queyras Regional Natural Park, and enjoy its villages, its terroirs and its craft. You will cross many alpine passes, including some legendary like the Col du Galibier at 2600 meters where the lunar panorama will leave you speechless.
To make this trip in the best condition, be sure of your organization and of the good condition of your motorcycle in order to enjoy everything in safety. This is a short trip, intense and exotic; it is perfect for adventurers who only have few days.
¤ Day 0
Leman lake | 0 kms | Geneva
To start your trip as the best as possible, please, arrive the day before departure because each riding day takes the entire day. We invite you to meet around the Leman Lake for the motorcycle reception and the briefing of the trip.
¤ Day 1
Head to the Savoy and its mountain landscape| Genève - Savoie | 195 kms
Leave the shores of the Leman Lake in direction of the Mont-Blanc. The first turns appear, and you will gain altitude in the Vallée d’Aulps. You are warmed-up and ready for some legendary passes: col de la Colombière and le col des Aravis with the view on the Mont-Blanc. We will climb 7 passes during the day, each as remarkable as the other, the highest point will be the col de Roseland at 1968 meters.
Finish the day off nicely with local specialities and get ready for the next days.
¤ Day 2
From the Tarentaise Valley to Massif des Ecrins | Savoie - Hautes-Alpes | 230 kms
For this second day, you will climb worldwide renowned passes, thanks to the Tour de France. After an ascent of 20 kilometers, you will be on the highest point of the day: the col du Galibier (2765 m). This will be followed by the Massif de la Tarentaise and the Vallée de la Maurienne, a true paradise place for a motorcycle trip, an undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in the Alps, where road tickling the clouds.
At the end of the day, you will follow the Massif des Ecrins to your accommodation where you will enjoy a sweet evening.
¤ Day 3
From Hautes Alpes to Mediterranean buttress | Hautes-Alpes - vallée de l'Ubaye | 190 kms
To start the day, the col de l’Izoard the first pass of the day takes us up to 2300 meters. Vegetation and weather then change completely, we enter in the Mediterranean climate, and the landscapes are more arid. We then pass through the Alpes de Hautes Provence department, where there are also excellent roads to discover the Vallée de l’Ubaye.
We will find in this same valley a Mexican inspiration formed since the 19th century. We leave the Route des Grandes Alpes here, but cool road and breath-taking landscapes remain on the program.
¤ Day 4
To the edge of the Parc du Mercantour | Ubaye - Isère | 300 kms
After a good breakfast, we leave toward the Parc National du Mercantour. The altitude is lower on this side, but the 3 passes on the program of the day are wilder and isolated than each other. This part of the trip is the most southern of our itinerary. Then, take the full North road, along the lakes and crossing the valleys.
The junction with the Alps will be via the Route Napoléon, and your evening will be peaceful at more than 1800 meter above sea level.
¤ Day 5
From the Massif de la Vanoise to the shore of Leman Lake| Isère - Genève | 250 kms
After a cold night at 1800 meters, let’s attack the Massif de la Vanoise where the pastures will follow with the passes at more than 2000 meter. The Mont-Blanc and its snowy peaks are back by climbing the col des Aravis. The return to the upper plateau of the Leman Lake advert the end of the trip.
